Set Up the Base
Sit with both legs extended in front of you (Dandasana). Sit tall with hands resting on your thighs, spine long, shoulders relaxed.

Half Lord of the Fishes is a deep seated spinal twist that wrings out tension along the entire length of the spine, stimulates the digestive organs, and opens the shoulders and hips simultaneously. Named after the sage Matsyendra, it is one of the most complete detoxifying poses in the classical Hatha yoga tradition.

Bend your right knee and place your right foot flat on the floor outside your left thigh. The right knee points toward the ceiling.

Bend your left knee and tuck your left foot beside your right hip, or keep the left leg straight. On an inhale, sit tall and grow the spine long from the tailbone to the crown.

On an exhale, rotate your torso to the right. Place your left elbow on the outside of your right knee. Place your right hand on the mat behind your right hip, fingertips pointing away.

With each inhale, lengthen the spine. With each exhale, rotate a little further to the right. Look over your right shoulder. Keep both shoulders level and your chest open.

Hold for 30 seconds to 1 minute, breathing slowly and deeply. On an exhale, unwind the twist carefully. Return to centre, then repeat the full sequence on the left side.
